In South Carolina, the Family Court has exclusive jurisdiction to handle all matters involving domestic or family relationships. This means the Family Court hears all cases relating to: marriage, divorce, legal separation, child custody and support, visitation rights, termination of parental rights, spousal support, alimony, division of marital property, change of name, and adoption. The Family Court also generally has jurisdiction over minors under the age of seventeen who have be accused of violating a state law or municipal ordinance.
